Township Parks

MAGOON CREEK PARK located just off Red Apple Road consists of  97 acres  comprising 2,300 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline.  The Magoon Creek Natural Area purchase was finalized in December of 1982 being made possible by a group of dedicated township residents.

This Natural Area with its dunes, rolling hills and valleys offers hiking trails and a picnic area with tables and grills.  Various kinds of trees and shrubs are havens for wildlife such as deer and turkey.  A stroll along the many paths is a day well spent.

Considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Lakes dunes comprise the world’s most extensive freshwater assembly of dunes.  The dunes of  Magoon Creek Natural Area are fragile.  The township mission is to allow the natural progression of dune development.

SUNDLING PARK is a 66 foot wide strip west of Red Apple Road where a trail to the beach can be found.  A small parking area off Red Apple Road is available.  A trail through the park and down the dune ends at the water’s edge.

FILER CITY PARK and OAK HILL PARKS offer tennis courts, basketball facilities, park benches, picnic tables and playground equipment.  In the early 1960’s a recreation center building was built at the east edge of the Oak Hill Park and is offered for daily rental for small weddings, graduations, showers and other similar functions.
